Letter dated November 20th, 1944
1500 Central War Time
Dear Mardean;
Your letter brighened what would seem a very dreary day - Overcast and somewhat inclined toward snow. Of course one expects the worst weather this time of year, I'm only hoping snow and ice will hold back until after I clear out for Florida.
Yesterday was Sunday and inclsed is the resume of Sunday's program. Yes! They took me quite by sotrm and it was either give out or not show up. Needless to say I gave the best 10-minute oration that I've ever given in my life. The services were short and sweet 10 minutes locking for a full hour.
I can't for the life of me figure out why I was not mentioned during your sojourn in Galesburg. I asked Hannah about it and it seems there is no explanation at least I have one consolation. My sisters didn't mention my other brothers as should I say my two brothers. One of them just arrived home from the Navy from Los Angeles. We two are taking over the town.
Yup! I'm believing everything Hannah has reported about you. After she received that lovely box of Bluebird chocolates and me as chief sampler around these parts what else could I not believe? So it is the "leaves" that must be turned. However I don't think you are the type of person who needs any "leaf-turning."
You must be an awful lucky person to find gold - and a wedding ring at that. maybe your man is in sight but no cash for the needful appertatice
