Have you ever wondered how Grandma met Grandpa? To find the answer to that I started in Grandpa and Grandma's Saunders missionary journal which tells about their mission to Galesburg, Ill. about 1943 or so where they met Hannah Lindbloom Rosine and family. From there Hannah introduced the two. Apparently the relationship started out with corrispondence, unfortunately I only have dad's letters to mom. We have to fill in the other half with our imaginations.
Letter with postmark Galesburg Ill Nov 14, 1944:

"At Hannah's home" 12 Nov 1944

Dear Mardean:
The Lindbloom's are game for almost any new adventure and since my sister Hannah has you quoted as the best sport West of the Mississippi. I'm ready to accept the same title East of the afore-mentioned river.
Anyway Miss Saunders - I'm the uncouth individual who claims to be Hannah's brother ----at least one of them. And whose travels have been just concluded from "Hawaii Nai" in favor of a 15- day leave of duty at home-sweet-home and after which time I must hurry to Miami Beach, Florida for reassignment.
Hannah has told me so much about you and your good works that I feel as if you have become one of the family. She really thinks the world of you. I'm almost envious______
Since your penmanship is so superior and your interesting imaginations coupled with delightsome experiences (again quoting Hannah) I'm wondering, for education sake, if you'll waste a few penned lines on me? The education line is a new angle but perhaps a new field of endeavor would be proper at this time. Emily Post has in the past 3 years relented somewhat along the lines of social conventions--this mostly due to war time restrictions, however, much joy and happiness can be transmitted via pen and paper and perhaps the results will justify the methods. Who Knows??
Yesterday was Sunday and Sunday means church around the Lindbloom Tribe - anyway it was Relief Society Conference so on my first Sunday back I escaped the honor of expounding a little doctrine. They usually get me every time. Not even for prayer this time. Hannah gave a swell discourse. Connie and I sat in the rear of the Chapel taking the talks down in short hand. When Hannah got to the word magnamity I just couldn't remember the shorthand for it so I folded up shop and listened like a good little boy. Rena Custer spoke as did Sister Bowers. All in all it was a success. Oh I forgot the singing mothers did a number.
Well Mardean do I or don't I get a letter?
Aloha Nui Loa,
Edwin
